Independent Living Program

Growing up and moving out on your own is a big step for anyone. For young people in foster care, it can feel even bigger. We are working with the Virginia Department of Social Services to offer Independent Living Arrangements for older youth and young adults in foster care: a safe place to live on their own, with a caring team that checks in regularly and helps them build real-life skills like budgeting, cooking, keeping a job, finishing school, and understanding a lease.

ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) Services

We are adding ABA services for children, teens, and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities. ABA uses positive, evidence-based strategies to help people build communication, social, and daily living skills and reduce behaviors that get in the way of learning and independence. Services will be provided under the direction of a licensed behavior analyst, with plans built around each person's goals and family priorities.

Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS)

Helping students with disabilities, ages 14 to 22, get ready for life after high school. We are working with the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) to offer all five Pre-ETS services in Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange, and Rappahannock counties:

  • Job Exploration Counseling: discovering interests, strengths, and career paths
  • Work-Based Learning Experiences: job shadows, site visits, and supported work experiences
  • Counseling on College and Training Options: planning the next step after high school
  • Workplace Readiness Training: communication, teamwork, punctuality, and workplace expectations
  • Instruction in Self-Advocacy: knowing your rights and speaking up for what you need

Classes are kept small, and services happen at schools, in the community, and at real job sites. Students are referred through their DARS counselor.
